THE EIGHTH DAY REPORT

A Watchman’s Warning About Fake Videos

By the Midnight Watchman — eighthdayprophecy.com

This week a video crossed my screen that I wanted very badly to be true.

A dimly lit scene featuring a smartphone displaying a person's face, placed next to a vintage oil lamp on a wooden surface.

It told a thrilling story. Donald Trump, it said, had blamed Canada for manipulating the dollar. American banks began dumping anything Canadian, and the loonie went into freefall. Then Prime Minister Mark Carney stepped up to a podium and revealed that for a year and a half he had been quietly buying gold, a little every month so no one would notice. Canada now held billions in gold and had contracts with sixty other countries. By the end of the day, the video said, the Canadian dollar was stronger than when the day began.

It was the kind of story that makes a Canadian sit up straight. I wanted to share it. Instead, I checked it.

Almost none of it was true.

What Was Real, and What Wasn’t

One small piece was real. On September 6, Donald Trump did post that Canada’s exchange rate with the United States was “unacceptable” and had “been that way for years.” He did not explain what he meant. That much was reported by CTV and Bloomberg.

Everything else fell apart:

  • Canada holds no gold at all. As of June 30, 2026, it is the only G7 nation with zero gold in its official reserves. The last of it was sold in 2016, after decades of sales under governments of every stripe. Canada publishes its reserves every month; a year and a half of secret gold buying would be sitting right there in the public numbers. It is not.
  • There was no freefall. In mid-September the Canadian dollar was trading around 72 US cents — slightly stronger than when Trump took office in January 2025, and well within its normal range.
  • No credible outlet anywhere reported a gold announcement, a run by American banks, or contracts with sixty countries.

The story was built to make Canadians feel proud, and to make them share it. That is exactly why it worked.

How Many of These Are Out There?

No one can count them. They are being made faster than anyone can track. But here is a picture of what has been documented in the last few months alone:

  • In August, fact-checkers rated as false a claim, spread by AI-generated videos, that Trump had expelled 58 Canadian diplomats from Washington. It never happened.
  • Global News found YouTube and TikTok channels with names like “The Canadian Reporter” and “Canadian Zone” pumping out false Canadian political stories. When YouTube cracked down on AI-voiced spam in 2025, they simply hired real actors to read AI-written scripts. One of their videos, about a supposed Alberta and Saskatchewan “exit deal,” passed a million views on TikTok.
  • Fake videos of Mark Carney have been used to sell phony investments. An Ontario senior lost more than $900,000 after a Facebook ad showed a fake Carney promoting a “Bank of Canada-backed” investment. Another Ontario woman lost $83,000. “It looked exactly like Mark Carney,” she said. “It was Mark Carney.”
  • In the first six months of 2026, Canadians reported about $351 million lost to fraud, with investment fraud the largest category. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre estimates that only 5 to 10 percent of fraud is ever reported.

And this is not only a Canadian problem, or a one-sided one. Fake videos run in every direction. Some make Carney a hero; others blame him for things he never did. Some flatter Americans; others mock them. Even world leaders now share AI-made videos of one another. The fakes do not care which side you are on. They only care that you click, believe, and pass it along.

Jesus Warned Us First

When the disciples asked Jesus about the signs of the end of the age, the very first thing He said was not about wars or earthquakes. It was about deception.

Matthew 24:4 (ESV)

“And Jesus answered them, ‘See that no one leads you astray.’”

He came back to it again a few verses later, and warned that the deception would be convincing enough to fool even believers if it were possible:

Matthew 24:24 (ESV)

“For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.”

I am not saying a fake video on YouTube is the Antichrist. But I am saying this: we are living in the first generation in history where seeing is no longer believing. A face, a voice, a podium, a news anchor — all of it can now be manufactured in minutes by someone who has never been within a thousand miles of the person on the screen. If Scripture warns that the last days will be marked by deception powerful enough to mislead the elect, then the tools for that deception are already in everyone’s pocket.

The watchman’s job has always been to see clearly before others do. Right now, seeing clearly means doubting what we see.

Test Everything

Scripture does not ask us to be gullible, and it does not ask us to be cynical. It asks us to test.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (ESV)

“But test everything; hold fast what is good.”

Proverbs 14:15 (ESV)

“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.”

The believers in Berea were praised for exactly this. When Paul himself preached to them, they did not simply take his word for it. They “received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so” (Acts 17:11, ESV). If the Bereans checked the apostle Paul, we can certainly check a YouTube channel.

How to Spot a Fake Before You Share It

  • Be most suspicious of the stories you most want to be true. That is precisely the button these videos are built to push. The gold video worked on me for that reason.
  • Ask who reported it. If a story this big were real, every major outlet would carry it. If you can only find it on channels with generic names like “Canadian Reporter” or “Nation News Today,” be careful.
  • Search the claim. Type the key words into a search engine along with the words “fact check.” It takes thirty seconds.
  • Watch the details. AI video often shows mouths slightly out of sync with the words, odd hands, unnatural blinking, a flat voice, or backgrounds that shift and blur.
  • Never invest because a politician or celebrity appears in an ad. No prime minister, president, or bank governor is selling crypto on Facebook. Ever. A familiar face in an ad is not proof of anything.
  • Slow down when you feel urgency. “Act now,” “they don’t want you to see this,” and “share before it’s deleted” are the fingerprints of manipulation, not truth.
  • Talk to someone you trust before you send money. Scammers work hardest to keep their victims isolated.
  • Report it. In Canada, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at antifraudcentre.ca or 1-888-495-8501. In the United States, report fraud to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

A Word to Those Who Have Been Fooled

If you have already shared one of these, or worse, lost money to one, please hear me: you are not stupid. These fakes are made by professionals, and they are built to fool good, trusting people. The Ontario woman who lost $83,000 said she “couldn’t stop crying.” Shame is what keeps victims silent, and silence is what lets the scammers move on to the next person. Tell someone. Report it. Warn your family.

And then do what Scripture asks of all of us: test everything, and hold fast to what is good.

There is one source that does not change with the news cycle, cannot be faked, and will not lead you astray. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8, ESV). In an age when anything can be manufactured, anchor yourself to the One thing that cannot.

We are that close.

Watch. Pray. Stand fast.
