Day 13 of 33 — three in the morning for the three days, three at night for the three nights.

Morning — The Upward Call

Begin with the Breath of Life, then three movements to wake the body: two gentle ones from the Awakening Series (in bed, seated, or holding a chair) and one from the Deepening Series for those who are able. Use the modification you need.

The Breath of Life

Genesis 2:7 (NLT)

“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”

Every morning on this path begins the way human life began — with the breath of God. Before you move, breathe. Receive this day’s breath as His gift.

AWAKENING BREATH  “First Breath of the Day”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie in bed or sit comfortably
  2. Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly
  3. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose for 4 counts (feel your belly rise)
  4. Hold for 2 counts
  5. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 counts
  6. Repeat 10 times

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated: Same movement while sitting
  • Standing: Same movement while standing
  • Breathing Difficulty: Use shorter counts (3-2-4)

Able to stand? Use the standing version instead:

DYNAMIC AWAKENING BREATH “Breath with Movement”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart
  2. As you inhale (4 counts), raise both arms overhead
  3. Hold breath at top (2 counts), reaching tall
  4. As you exhale (6 counts), lower arms slowly to sides
  5. Repeat 15 times

SCRIPTURE:

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” — Philippians 3:14 (NLT)

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #22

1. ANKLE CIRCLES  “Joint Mobility”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie in bed or sit with legs extended
  2. Rotate your right ankle in a circle clockwise (10 circles)
  3. Reverse direction, rotating counterclockwise (10 circles)
  4. Repeat with left ankle
  5. Complete 2 sets per ankle

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated: Same movement
  • Standing: Hold chair for balance, lift one foot at a time
  • Limited Mobility: Make very small circles

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

MEDITATION:

Paul presses on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize—the upward call. This morning, pressing on looked like waking, breathing, moving gently. Do not despise small beginnings. Every stretch, every lifted arm, was a step of pressing on. You are not standing still. You are moving toward the prize. Each new morning is another day in the race—and God, through Christ Jesus, is calling you onward. Press on.

Exercise 2 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Morning Exercise #14

2. BIRD DOGS “Balance and Stability”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Start on hands and knees (tabletop position)
  2. Extend right arm forward and left leg back simultaneously
  3. Keep hips level, core engaged
  4. Hold for 3 seconds
  5. Return to starting position
  6. Switch sides (left arm, right leg)
  7. Complete 20 total (10 per side), rest, repeat for 2 sets

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Extend only arm OR leg, not both
  • Harder: Hold position for 5 seconds, add ankle weights
  • Balance Issues: Keep movements smaller

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

ENCOURAGEMENT:

Press on. Move toward the prize. The upward call is pulling you higher. One morning at a time, keep going.

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #13

3. ELBOW BENDS  “Arm Strength”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie in bed or sit with arms at your sides
  2. Bend your right elbow, bringing your hand toward your shoulder
  3. Lower arm back down
  4. Repeat with left arm
  5. Alternate arms for 20 bends (10 per arm)

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated/Standing: Same movement
  • Limited Strength: Do not bend fully; go partway
  • Pain: Very gentle range of motion

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, thank You for this new morning. Your mercies are new again today. Go with me into every hour of it, and let my body and my life be a prayer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Evening — When I Am Afraid

Three movements to release the day and prepare for rest: one stretch from the Deepening Series for those who are able, then two gentle ones, ending in stillness. Use the modification you need.

SCRIPTURE:

“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” — Psalm 56:3 (NLT)

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Evening Exercise #12

1. WRIST STRETCHES  “Hand Release”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Extend right arm forward, palm up
  2. With left hand, gently pull fingers back toward body
  3. Hold for 15 seconds, feeling stretch in forearm
  4. Flip palm down, pull fingers toward body
  5. Hold for 15 seconds
  6. Switch arms, repeat
  7. Complete 2 sets per arm

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Very gentle pull, reduce hold time
  • Harder: Deepen stretch, extend hold time
  • Wrist Pain: Minimal stretching

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

MEDITATION:

As you stretched tonight, you opened places that held tension all day. When you are afraid, you put your trust in God. Letting go can feel vulnerable, even scary. Releasing what you have gripped all day can feel exposed. But you trust God. He is holding you safe even in this vulnerable opening. Whatever fear followed you home, lay the day down. Trust Him with the night.

  1. Lie in bed with legs extended
  2. Point toes away from you
  3. Flex feet, pulling toes toward you
  4. Alternate pointing and flexing for 20 pumps

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated: Same movement
  • Standing: Not recommended for evening
  • Limited Mobility: Small movements

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

ENCOURAGEMENT:

When you are afraid, trust Him. This vulnerability is safe. God is holding you as you let go.

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Evening Exercise #13

3. ARM STRETCHES OVERHEAD (GENTLE)  “Final Reach”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie on your back or sit upright
  2. Interlace fingers, turn palms away
  3. Reach arms gently overhead
  4. Hold for 10 seconds
  5. Lower slowly
  6. Repeat 5 times

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated/Standing: Same movement
  • Limited Mobility: Reach only partway overhead
  • Shoulder Pain: Keep arms lower

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for carrying me through this day. I lay it down at Your feet — what went well and what did not. Watch over me as I sleep, and wake me ready to walk with You again. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 13 complete. Rest well. Tomorrow is Day 14.
