Day 17 of 33 — three in the morning for the three days, three at night for the three nights.
Morning — Strength and Shield
Begin with the Breath of Life, then three movements to wake the body: two gentle ones from the Awakening Series (in bed, seated, or holding a chair) and one from the Deepening Series for those who are able. Use the modification you need.
The Breath of Life
Genesis 2:7 (NLT)
“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”
Every morning on this path begins the way human life began — with the breath of God. Before you move, breathe. Receive this day’s breath as His gift.
AWAKENING BREATH “First Breath of the Day”
MOVEMENT:
- Lie in bed or sit comfortably
- Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly
- Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose for 4 counts (feel your belly rise)
- Hold for 2 counts
- Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 counts
- Repeat 10 times
MODIFICATIONS:
- Bed-Bound: As described
- Seated: Same movement while sitting
- Standing: Same movement while standing
- Breathing Difficulty: Use shorter counts (3-2-4)
Able to stand? Use the standing version instead:
DYNAMIC AWAKENING BREATH “Breath with Movement”
MOVEMENT:
- Stand with feet hip-width apart
- As you inhale (4 counts), raise both arms overhead
- Hold breath at top (2 counts), reaching tall
- As you exhale (6 counts), lower arms slowly to sides
- Repeat 15 times
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
SCRIPTURE:
“The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart.” — Psalm 28:7 (NLT)
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #29
1. BICEP CURLS (NO WEIGHT) “Arm Strengthening”
MOVEMENT:
- Sit or lie comfortably
- Bend your right elbow, bringing your hand toward your shoulder
- Squeeze your bicep at the top
- Lower slowly
- Repeat with left arm
- Alternate arms for 20 curls (10 per arm)
MODIFICATIONS:
- Bed-Bound: As described
- Seated/Standing: Same movement
- Add Resistance: Hold a water bottle or small book if desired
- Limited Strength: Do not curl all the way
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
MEDITATION:
The LORD is your strength and shield. Your heart trusts Him. As you moved this morning, you felt your back, your shoulders, your arms waking—one side, then the other. You were practicing trust—trusting your body to carry you, trusting God to be your shield. Whatever comes against you today, He stands between you and it. That trust allows you to move forward with confidence, knowing He has got your back—literally.

Exercise 2 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Morning Exercise #18
2. RUSSIAN TWISTS “Oblique Strength”

- Clasp hands together at chest
- Rotate torso to right, bringing hands toward floor
- Rotate to left side
- Continue alternating for 40 seconds
- Rest, repeat for 3 sets
MODIFICATIONS:
- Easier: Keep feet on floor, reduce time to 30 seconds
- Harder: Lift feet off floor, hold light weight
- Back Pain: Keep rotation smaller

Your heart trusts Him. Move forward. He is your shield, protecting your back. Trust and step into this day.

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #8
3. ARM CIRCLES (SMALL) “Mobility and Freedom”

- Lie on your back or sit upright
- Extend your arms out to the sides (or just lift them slightly if bed-bound)

Evening — Lifted From the Pit
Three movements to release the day and prepare for rest: one stretch from the Deepening Series for those who are able, then two gentle ones, ending in stillness. Use the modification you need.
SCRIPTURE:
“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.” — Psalm 40:2 (NLT)

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Evening Exercise #16
1. HAPPY BABY POSE “Hip Opening”

- Easier: Hold ankles or thighs instead of feet
- Harder: Pull knees closer to armpits
- Limited Flexibility: Keep knees higher, do not pull close
✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧
MEDITATION:
As you moved tonight, you lifted and lowered—moving, then releasing, then stretching. God lifted you out of the pit. He set your feet on solid ground and steadied you. Your body moved from low to high, from tight to loose. God is lifting you from pit to solid ground. Feel that lifting as you rest. Lay the day down. You are standing on the rock.
