Day 3 of 33 — three in the morning for the three days, three at night for the three nights.

Morning — He Keeps Watch

Begin with the Breath of Life, then three movements to wake the body: two gentle ones from the Awakening Series (in bed, seated, or holding a chair) and one from the Deepening Series for those who are able. Use the modification you need.

The Breath of Life

Genesis 2:7 (NLT)

“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”

Every morning on this path begins the way human life began — with the breath of God. Before you move, breathe. Receive this day’s breath as His gift.

AWAKENING BREATH  “First Breath of the Day”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie in bed or sit comfortably
  2. Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly
  3. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose for 4 counts (feel your belly rise)
  4. Hold for 2 counts
  5. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 counts
  6. Repeat 10 times

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated: Same movement while sitting
  • Standing: Same movement while standing
  • Breathing Difficulty: Use shorter counts (3-2-4)

Able to stand? Use the standing version instead:

DYNAMIC AWAKENING BREATH  “Breath with Movement”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart
  2. As you inhale (4 counts), raise both arms overhead
  3. Hold breath at top (2 counts), reaching tall
  4. As you exhale (6 counts), lower arms slowly to sides
  5. Repeat 15 times

SCRIPTURE:

“The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” — Psalm 121:8 (NLT)

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #28

1. SEATED SIDE BENDS  “Lateral Stretch”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Sit on edge of bed or in chair
  2. Raise your right arm overhead
  3. Gently bend to the left, reaching your right arm over
  4. Hold for 10 seconds
  5. Return to center
  6. Repeat on opposite side
  7. Complete 5 bends per side

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: Lie on back, reach one arm overhead and to the side
  • Seated: As described
  • Standing: Same movement
  • Limited Mobility: Bend only slightly

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

MEDITATION:

The LORD keeps watch over your coming and going, both now and forever. He watched over you through the night. He watched as your body woke and your eyes opened. As you moved slowly this morning, finding your balance in the chair or on the bed, you were practicing trust—trusting your body to hold you, trusting God to keep you steady. Your body is learning what your spirit knows: God keeps you stable. Wherever you go today, you go watched over. Every going out. Every coming in.

Exercise 2 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Morning Exercise #4

2. PUSH-UPS (MODIFIED)  “Pressing Through Resistance”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Start on hands and knees (modified position)
  2. Place hands slightly wider than shoulders
  3. Keep body in straight line from head to knees
  4. Lower chest toward floor, elbows at 45-degree angle
  5. Push back up to starting position
  6. Complete 10 repetitions, rest, repeat for 3 sets

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Push-ups against wall or elevated surface
  • Harder: Full push-ups on toes, increase repetitions to 15
  • Wrist Pain: Use push-up bars or make fists

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

ENCOURAGEMENT:

God is keeping you balanced. You are steady when He is steadying you. Keep moving. Keep trusting.

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #12

3. CHEST EXPANSION  “Opening to Breathe”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie on your back or sit upright
  2. Extend both arms out to the sides, palms up
  3. Take a deep breath and expand your chest
  4. Hold for 5 seconds
  5. Bring arms back to center as you exhale
  6. Repeat 10 times

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated/Standing: Same movement
  • Limited Mobility: Do not extend arms fully; just open chest
  • Shoulder Pain: Keep arms lower

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, thank You for this new morning. Your mercies are new again today. Go with me into every hour of it, and let my body and my life be a prayer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Evening — Give Him Every Care

Three movements to release the day and prepare for rest: one stretch from the Deepening Series for those who are able, then two gentle ones, ending in stillness. Use the modification you need.

SCRIPTURE:

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Evening Exercise #19

1. SEATED FORWARD FOLD  “Complete Release”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Sit on floor with legs extended straight in front
  2. Inhale, lengthening spine
  3. Exhale, folding forward from hips
  4. Let arms reach toward feet (or grab where comfortable)
  5. Let head hang heavy
  6. Hold for 60 seconds, breathing deeply
  7. Slowly roll up to sitting

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Bend knees generously, use strap around feet
  • Harder: Keep legs straight, reach for feet or beyond
  • Hamstring Tightness: Keep knees very bent

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

MEDITATION:

As you stretched tonight, you released tension—in your back, your hips, the weight you carried all day. Give ALL your worries and cares to Him. Not some. All. As you breathe out, imagine wringing out the anxiety like water from a towel. God cares about you. He is receiving what you are releasing. You do not have to carry it into sleep. Lay the day down in His hands.

  2. Place both hands under lower back
  3. Gently arch your back over your hands
  4. Hold for 10 seconds
  5. Remove hands, lie flat
  6. Repeat 5 times

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated: Sit upright, place hands on lower back, gently arch
  • Standing: Not recommended
  • Limited Mobility: Very small arch

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

ENCOURAGEMENT:

Wring it all out. Give every worry to Him. He cares about you—He is taking what you are releasing.

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Evening Exercise #2

3. GENTLE STANDING TWISTS  “Wringing Out Tension”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart, arms at sides
  2. Gently twist torso to the right, letting arms swing
  3. Twist to the left, arms following naturally
  4. Continue twisting side to side for 60 seconds
  5. Let arms wrap around body with each twist
  6. Slow down gradually, come to stillness

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Smaller twists, slower pace
  • Harder: Add small squat with each twist
  • Back Pain: Keep twists very gentle

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for carrying me through this day. I lay it down at Your feet — what went well and what did not. Watch over me as I sleep, and wake me ready to walk with You again. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 3 complete. Rest well. Tomorrow is Day 4.
