Day 9 of 33 — three in the morning for the three days, three at night for the three nights.

Morning — My Rock and Fortress

Begin with the Breath of Life, then three movements to wake the body: two gentle ones from the Awakening Series (in bed, seated, or holding a chair) and one from the Deepening Series for those who are able. Use the modification you need.

The Breath of Life

Genesis 2:7 (NLT)

“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”

Every morning on this path begins the way human life began — with the breath of God. Before you move, breathe. Receive this day’s breath as His gift.

AWAKENING BREATH  “First Breath of the Day”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Lie in bed or sit comfortably
  2. Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly
  3. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose for 4 counts (feel your belly rise)
  4. Hold for 2 counts
  5. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 counts
  6. Repeat 10 times

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: As described
  • Seated: Same movement while sitting
  • Standing: Same movement while standing
  • Breathing Difficulty: Use shorter counts (3-2-4)

Able to stand? Use the standing version instead:

DYNAMIC AWAKENING BREATH “Breath with Movement”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart
  2. As you inhale (4 counts), raise both arms overhead
  3. Hold breath at top (2 counts), reaching tall
  4. As you exhale (6 counts), lower arms slowly to sides
  5. Repeat 15 times

SCRIPTURE:

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.” — Psalm 18:2 (NLT)

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #28

1. SEATED SIDE BENDS  “Lateral Stretch”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Sit on edge of bed or in chair
  2. Raise your right arm overhead
  3. Gently bend to the left, reaching your right arm over
  4. Hold for 10 seconds
  5. Return to center
  6. Repeat on opposite side
  7. Complete 5 bends per side

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: Lie on back, reach one arm overhead and to the side
  • Seated: As described
  • Standing: Same movement
  • Limited Mobility: Bend only slightly

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

MEDITATION:

The LORD is your rock, your fortress, and your savior. Some mornings your world feels turned upside down before your feet touch the floor. When everything feels inverted, when life pulls the wrong direction, God is still your stable foundation. As you moved this morning—slowly, carefully, feeling your body wake—you were settling onto that rock. You are not building your day on shifting ground. You are declaring: Even in weakness, even when vulnerable, God is my rock. He is your protection.

Exercise 2 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Morning Exercise #10

2. SHOULDER PRESS (WITH WEIGHTS OR BOTTLES) “Lifting Burdens”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Stand or sit with light weights (1-5 lbs) or water bottles
  2. Start with weights at shoulder height, elbows bent
  3. Press weights straight overhead until arms are extended
  4. Lower with control back to shoulders
  5. Complete 12 repetitions, rest, repeat for 3 sets

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Use lighter weights or no weights, reduce repetitions
  • Harder: Increase weight, add pulse at top
  • Shoulder Pain: Reduce range of motion

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

ENCOURAGEMENT:

Even when your world is upside down, God is your rock. Move with His strength. He is your fortress today.

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Morning Exercise #9

3. SEATED MARCHING  “Forward Motion”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Sit on the edge of bed or in a chair
  2. Lift your right knee up as high as comfortable
  3. Lower it back down
  4. Lift your left knee
  5. Alternate knees for 30 seconds (or 20 marches total)

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: Lie on back, lift knees alternately toward chest
  • Seated: As described
  • Standing: March in place
  • Limited Mobility: Just lift heel slightly off surface

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

CLOSING PRAYER:

Father, thank You for this new morning. Your mercies are new again today. Go with me into every hour of it, and let my body and my life be a prayer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Evening — I Woke Up in Safety

Three movements to release the day and prepare for rest: one stretch from the Deepening Series for those who are able, then two gentle ones, ending in stillness. Use the modification you need.

SCRIPTURE:

“I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me.” — Psalm 3:5 (NLT)

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 1 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Evening Exercise #21

1. CAT-COW (SLOW FLOW)  “Spinal Meditation”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Come to hands and knees (tabletop position)
  2. Inhale deeply, arch back (cow position)
  3. Lift gaze and chest
  4. Exhale completely, round spine (cat position)
  5. Tuck chin to chest
  6. Flow slowly between positions for 2 minutes
  7. Move with breath—inhale cow, exhale cat

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Make movements very small and gentle
  • Harder: Hold each position for 5 seconds
  • Wrist Pain: Perform on forearms instead

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

MEDITATION:

David wrote this while running for his life—enemies on every side. And still: I lay down and slept. I woke up in safety. Why? The LORD was watching over me. As you stretched and released tonight, you told your body the watch is over. You do not have to stand guard through the night. Someone else is watching. Lay the day down. You will wake up in safety.

Exercise 2 of 3 — from the Deepening Series, Evening Exercise #26

2. SHOULDER STRETCH ACROSS CHEST  “Deep Shoulder Release”

  2. Bring right arm across chest
  3. Use left arm to gently pull right arm closer
  4. Keep right shoulder down (do not hunch)
  5. Hold for 30 seconds
  6. Switch arms, hold for 30 seconds
  7. Repeat 3 times per arm

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Easier: Do not pull arm tightly, keep stretch gentle
  • Harder: Deepen stretch by pulling arm closer
  • Shoulder Pain: Very gentle pull

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

ENCOURAGEMENT:

The LORD is watching over you tonight. You can sleep. You will wake up safe.

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

Exercise 3 of 3 — from the Awakening Series, Evening Exercise #26

3. GENTLE ROCKING  “Self-Soothing”

MOVEMENT:

  1. Sit on edge of bed
  2. Wrap arms around yourself
  3. Gently rock side to side
  4. Continue for 1-2 minutes
  5. Gradually slow until still

MODIFICATIONS:

  • Bed-Bound: Rock gently side to side while lying down
  • Seated: As described
  • Standing: Not recommended
  • Minimal Movement: Just sway slightly

✧ ✧ ✧  ✧ ✧ ✧

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for carrying me through this day. I lay it down at Your feet — what went well and what did not. Watch over me as I sleep, and wake me ready to walk with You again. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 9 complete. Rest well. Tomorrow is Day 10.
